Boy Scout Troop 764 was chartered at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, Georgia in 1976. The first Scoutmaster was Bob Smallwood and he is still active as a Leader in the Troop today. Troop 764 is a member of the Hightower Trail District and the Atlanta Area Council.
The Troop holds its meetings every Monday night at 7:30 PM in the Scout Hut at St. Luke’s (1978 Mount Vernon Road). The Scout Hut is housed in the basement of Sheppard Hall and was the vision of Brid Igleheart, whose two sons Ryan (1996) and Austin (2002) became Eagles in the Troop.
Troop 764 plans one weekend activity every month from August through June. These activities include hiking trips to North Georgia, cycling on the Silver Comet Trail, swamp canoeing, and more. In July, the Scouts attend Summer Camp at Woodruff Scout Camp. The Troop also routinely sends contingents to national jamborees, all three BSA high adventure bases (Philmont, Northern Tier, and Sea Base), and to National Order of the Arrow Conferences (NOAC).
Hundreds of boys have experienced the adventure of scouting through Troop 764. Since 1976, the troop has had 98 young men earn Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank available in Boy Scouts. A much greater number of boys have benefited from their scouting experiences and have grown into strong leaders in all walks of society.
